Hey everyone! I’m trying to decide between two Lenovo laptops for gaming, and I could really use your advice. The first one is the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with a 16″ WOXGA IPS display, powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, along with 16 GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The second option is the Lenovo Legion Pro 5, also 16″, but with a WQXGA display, an Intel® Core™ i5-14500HX, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB. Both laptops are priced the same, but the Pro feels more premium. I’m planning to game at the native resolution and might use DLSS, ideally at the Quality setting. The games I’m excited to play include KCD2, MH: Wilds, Destiny 2, and Ghost of Tsushima. Thanks in advance for your help!

On paper, the RTX 4070 has the edge, but not by much. However, the 32GB RAM in the Pro could really help if you multitask a lot. If you’re planning on running multiple applications while gaming, that might be a significant factor.
Since it’s a Lenovo, you should be able to add more RAM without issues. It might be a bit of a hassle, but if you love the build quality, it could be worth it!
The difference isn’t massive between the 4060 and 4070, but consider the benefits of the Pro: better build quality, more RAM, and a more efficient CPU that helps battery life (the Ryzen CPU drains faster because it lacks an iGPU). If I were you, I’d lean towards the Legion Pro. The slight GPU increase in the Slim may not be worth sacrificing those other aspects, although that’s just my take.
I noticed that the performance gap widens at 1440p or 1600p, but there aren’t many benchmarks out there showing the 4060’s performance at those resolutions with DLSS.
The 4060 is solid, but I’m not too familiar with the i5 14500HX. Just keep in mind the performance gap between the 4060 and 4070 isn’t huge, maybe 10-15% maximum.
I can always upgrade the RAM later. Will that void the warranty if I open the laptop to change it?
