I’ve been running into some trouble with SharePlay on my PlayStation lately. Ever since a software update around September 2024, it stopped working when trying to connect with friends outside of Australia. It works fine domestically, but when I try with my buddy in the U.S., it says my internet is too slow, which it definitely isn’t. We used to SharePlay all the time before this issue. I saw others posting about the same regional problem, but there seems to be no fix yet. I even reached out to PlayStation support, but they weren’t able to help. Does anyone have a solution or know when the next major update will be released? It’s been quite a while now and I’d really like to get back to SharePlaying with my friend.

WHAT a pain! Sadly, the distance and the crazy tech involved in connecting right across the world mean high latency is just how it is sometimes. It’d be smart to also check if your router settings require any tweaking post-update. Sometimes updates mess with those, and making sure everything’s optimal on that side could help.
The issue is probably due to the high latency you’re experiencing when trying to reach outside of Australia. Even with a decent connection, the underwater cables to the U.S. can cause delays. It’s best if you are on a wired connection instead of WiFi to potentially reduce some latency. Also, you might want to try a full reinstall of the system firmware through safe mode on your PlayStation. Just turn it off, hold the power button, and go into safe mode to reinstall it via the internet. Hopefully, that might help.
I really appreciate the suggestion but weirdly, everything was completely fine before the update. And it’s not just a problem between Australia and the U.S. – others seem to be experiencing this issue with other countries too.
