Hey everyone, I’m having a frustrating problem after upgrading to AM5. Whenever I install graphics drivers, my PC behaves erratically—it freezes for a second, then goes to a black screen for about 5 to 10 seconds. My reliability history indicates a livekernel141 error. Interestingly, the GPU was functioning perfectly fine with my old build just yesterday. I’ve tried checking all the connections, using different drivers, and even ran DDU to wipe the previous driver. The boot drive is my old one, and I haven’t been able to test my new SSD or old HDD since they are unallocated at the moment. I’ve also tested the RAM, reseated both the GPU and RAM, and verified all PSU cables are connected properly. Temperatures appear fine according to HWMonitor. Strangely, the issue seems to disappear when running the Heaven benchmark, which suggests the problem only arises under low load. Here are my specs: Asus TUF Gaming B650 Plus WiFi (new), Ryzen 7 7800X3D (new), Palit Gaming 3080 (old), Vesta 2 DDR5 6000 (new), and Corsair H150i Elite Capelix (old). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like there might be an idle state bug with the AM5 platform, which could be causing the freezing issue. If a BIOS update doesn’t do the trick, you could try using MSI Afterburner to force the GPU to stay under load. That might bypass the problem altogether.
You might want to start by updating your motherboard’s BIOS and doing a fresh install of Windows 10. That could help with troubleshooting and make things easier. After that, grab the latest NVIDIA drivers and see if that resolves the issue. If everything stabilizes, you could consider upgrading to Windows 11 if that’s something you’re into.
I’m on the latest BIOS already, but I’ll give the Windows 10 reinstall a shot and see if it helps.
Sorry, I’ve never really used Afterburner much. Is that just for overclocking, or does it have an option for this?
