I’ve been watching some review videos from Gameranx and SkillUp about Avowed, and it seems like people generally find the combat enjoyable. However, the story and the limited talent points seem to be a bit underwhelming. I can go through the patch notes, but I’d love to get some context from players—do you think the recent updates have made the game better overall?

The story hasn’t changed much, but honestly, I thought it was fine. They did add a few more talent points, and even retroactively gave them to characters who leveled up before the update, which is a nice touch. Just manage your gear upgrades; if you know how to use that system, you’ll find the game isn’t too tough. Just keep your expectations in check—it’s not a deep RPG like Pillars 3, but it’s still fun if you don’t mind a more casual experience.
I think a lot of the reviews missed the mark. Some are pretty inaccurate. If you really want to know how the game is, just try it yourself. Mortismal and Yahtzee have solid reviews that seem legitimate.
They did improve the performance quite a bit! It was a buggy mess at launch, but the patches have fixed many quest-breaking bugs, which is great. One thing I’ve really enjoyed is how your character’s background affects dialogue throughout the game. It makes the story feel more personalized and less generic. That said, I do miss some of the deeper systems from previous RPGs.
Yeah, I chose Court Augur too! I’m really glad to see them keeping that background system in Outer Worlds 2.
Honestly, the only thing I didn’t like is that enemies are a one-and-done deal. It feels a bit empty when you clear areas since they don’t respawn. I get that it’s a smaller world compared to Elder Scrolls, but it still feels odd. Kingdoms of Amalur handled this better, and I wish Avowed had done something similar.
I felt that too! It’s not a huge deal, but having some respawning enemies would’ve made exploring feel more alive.
Totally agree! The gear upgrade system really helps you feel strong. And respeccing makes it easier to adjust your build.
