As someone who grew up with classic systems and Zelda games, I’m curious about how older gamers are adapting to the newer titles, especially after spending so much time with 2D games like those on the NES and SNES. I played the original Legend of Zelda when it first came out, and I’ve mostly stuck to older games. My son has a Switch and loves playing Breath of the Wild (BotW) and Tears of the Kingdom (TotK), which has sparked my interest in trying BotW myself. I’m wondering how many of you have made the leap from the early 2D Zelda games to the later 3D entries? For reference, I think the latest Zelda game I’ve tackled is Ocarina of Time (OoT).

I got into the series starting with OoT and worked my way through. There are a few Game Boy titles I missed, but I plan on checking those out on the Nintendo Switch Online service. Hopefully, you find the transition fun too!
Absolutely, you should dive into BotW! It’s loaded with nostalgia and hidden Easter eggs that will really resonate if you’ve played the earlier games. It’s amazing how they incorporated elements from past titles.
I’m in my 30s and have played every Zelda since Link to the Past. You don’t have to worry about keeping up; just jump in and enjoy! If you want to experience BotW, go for it. It’s truly epic!
Definitely check out those Game Boy games! You can get a taste of the classics and see how the series evolved.
