I’ve been off the game for a few months because smurfing was really messing up my experience. A friend of mine who’s a Super Star Legend (SSL) mentioned that a lot of smurf accounts got banned recently, making ranked matches at lower ranks more enjoyable. Is there any truth to this? How are other players feeling about smurfing and alt accounts these days? I’m thinking of reinstalling if this problem has actually improved.

No, smurfs weren’t mass banned like some people claim. I think a lot of the issue is just amplified by players noticing smurfs more than before, but the actual number hasn’t changed drastically.
Honestly, smurfing hasn’t gone away and, from what I gather, it’s actually getting worse. The AI stuff hasn’t made much of a dent in it as far as I can tell.
From what I’ve seen, the claim that smurf accounts have been massively banned since AI tools were introduced doesn’t really hold up. People still smurf quite a bit, especially in lower ranks, but it’s not as overwhelming as some might hype it up to be.
I don’t really get how AI would fix smurfing anyway. The game’s terms let players have multiple accounts, and as long as they aren’t obviously throwing or getting reported, there isn’t much the system can do. People manage ranks by playing certain modes or groups, which is allowed, so banning is tricky.
Smurfing is definitely still common at the lower tiers. It’s annoying and can slow down your climb since half your matches might feature smurfs either on your team or the opponent’s. That said, it’s not totally unplayable, just something to expect if you’re playing in Silver or Bronze.
Yeah, I’ve felt the same way. It’s really obvious when someone at Silver suddenly has crazy mechanics like Musty flicks. Makes ranking up a pain.
