I’m looking for insights on in-home game streaming solutions using a Linux host. I prefer couch gaming but find it cumbersome to move my gaming desktop between rooms. My current setup consists of Arch Linux, Hyprland, an RTX 3070, and dual 144Hz 2K monitors. I’ve tried several streaming options, but none seem to work well. For instance, I initially used Steam Link with a Raspberry Pi client, and while it worked okay, I faced severe stuttering while playing Silent Hill 2. I switched to an old i3wm setup which fixed the issues, but it’s outdated and not ideal for long-term use. I then attempted to set up Moonlight/Sunshine after some recommendations, but had issues with library dependencies and segfaults; I did manage to get streaming working with my Xbox for Monster Hunter, but performance was abysmal. I even tried switching to X11, but that failed altogether. Is game streaming on Linux just in a rough state right now, or am I particularly unlucky?

It sounds like you’re having a lot of bad luck. Usually, Moonlight and Sunshine should perform better. Make sure Sunshine is set up to use your GPU properly and consider tweaking the bitrate settings. Also, check that your desktop is connected via Ethernet to maximize stability.
Are there any good tests to ensure that my GPU is being utilized properly?
