I’m on the hunt for games that really play with the protagonist’s mind, distorting their sense of reality through psychological tricks or supernatural illusions. For instance, I loved how Scarecrow operates in the Arkham series, and how the markers in Dead Space mess with Isaac’s head, especially in the Dead Space 3 DLC where he fights imaginary necromorphs. I’m also considering Sonic Forces due to Infinite’s role. Would love to hear your suggestions!

You should definitely check out Spec Ops: The Line. It’s got some serious mind-bending moments that really mess with your perception of the narrative!
If you want more Lovecraftian vibes, try Sinking City, Eternal Darkness, or Bloodborne. These titles have a knack for altering your perception of what’s real. Dredge and Sunless Sea/skies also play around with that concept.
And for something really out there, Barotrauma includes a mechanic that can cause psychosis, making you see things that aren’t there—your sub can look damaged when it’s fine!
If I’m remembering right, Sunless Sea has an officer that only shows up when your sanity gets high; she disappears once it drops! Also, the quest involving colors humans haven’t seen is fantastic.
Man, what’s so bad about the Call of Cthulhu game? I heard it’s not great.
Bioshock 1 is a classic for this theme. It’s all about the psychological aspect and you’ll get deep into the protagonist’s distorted reality. Don’t forget about Infinite as well; it also dives into those messed-up perceptions in a big way!
Very good answer, thank you kindly!
Infinite, as well; both are great picks!
I should play through this again, it’s such good fun.
I’ve been meaning to play this. Thanks for the tip!
