Hey folks, I’m looking for a game where you can collect and customize characters in a unique and engaging way. I love the idea of randomly generated individuals joining your quest, similar to games like The Strive series and COM3D2. While I enjoy colony management games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress, I’m looking for something with more focus on character interaction and customization. Pokemon-type games are great, but often lack the specific gameplay I’m after. Any suggestions for games that allow you to build a cast of diverse companions and create a strong sense of community and leadership?

Have you tried Mount & Blade? It’s perfect for recruiting huge armies and unique characters, who can have different roles within your kingdom’s hierarchy. You can tweak skills, upgrade loadouts, and even assign management duties in your captured towns and forts.
Give Dragon’s Dogma a shot! At its core, you make a ‘pawn’ companion, which you can fully customize. You then fill the rest of your party through recruiting other players’ pawns, offering a lot of variety even if customization is mostly limited to your main one.
Cult of the Lamb sounds promising! It’s been on my radar, and I do plan to check it out soon, even if it’s not exactly what I’m looking for.
Dive into State of Decay 2. You begin with a couple of survivors and then build your camp by recruiting others with unique traits to make your community strong. But remember, relationships matter. Some characters might clash, so choose wisely!
Kenshi might be right up your alley. It offers a mix of set and procedurally generated characters you can recruit, plus extensive mod support enhances the experience. Though, don’t expect much character dialogue. Also, for Pokemon-style games, try Yaoling for some interesting visuals and literally fighting alongside your collected creatures.
Look into Watch Dogs Legion. It lets you play as multiple characters, all randomly generated, giving you plenty of personalities and roles to explore. There’s no central character, but the variety might appeal to what you’re seeking.
For something different, consider Dungeon Keeper. You manage a chaotic bunch of creatures building a dungeon, using them to defend against invaders or send them on raids. It’s more on the strategic side, but definitely has a unique charm.
