I did well in school and got rewarded with some cash from my parents, but I’m torn between getting a Game Boy Advance or a Nintendo DS. As a huge Pokémon fan, I’ve played all the games, but mostly on emulators. I want to experience my favorites like HeartGold and SoulSilver (HGSS) and Pokémon Emerald on a real handheld. Should I go for the Game Boy Advance mainly for Emerald, or should I opt for the DS where I can also play HGSS and Platinum?

If you go with a regular DS, you can play both GBA and DS games! That way you’ll have access to all the Pokémon titles you want, including Emerald and HGSS. It’s a pretty solid option if you want the best of both worlds.
Definitely look at getting a DS or DS Lite since they support GBA games. If you can find one of those, you’ll be able to play Emerald and transfer your Pokémon to the DS games like Platinum and HGSS. Just watch out for the DSi because it doesn’t support GBA games!
