I’ve just started playing Sea of Thieves and wanted to share my initial experiences. I’ve been playing solo mostly (my girlfriend works late), and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve survived a megalodon encounter, destroyed a few skeleton ships, and tackled some treasure hunts. However, I recently faced a really overwhelming situation where a skeleton ship spawned right as I was trying to repair my boat, and then a megalodon appeared on the other side. I ended up sinking and lost my loot, but I’m curious—how common is it to face both a megalodon and a skeleton ship at the same time? Is this just me having bad luck or is this a typical experience for new players?

Yeah, it is pretty common to get hit by both a megalodon and a skeleton ship, especially as you’re sailing away from a Tall Tale or something. The encounters are kind of RNG, so it can feel chaotic. Once you play more, you’ll learn how to juggle threats better. Just keep practicing, and you’ll find your rhythm with it.
From my experience, it’s not super rare to encounter both at once. The skeleton ships spawn based on certain timers, and they can both occur when you’re in open water. It’s a lot to deal with when you’re new, but you’ll get used to it. Just remember that skelly ships and megalodons can attack each other too! Also, you did pretty well managing your first day, so keep it up!
It’s not super common, but it can definitely happen if you’re out there long enough. We call this “getting Rared” when lots of crazy PvE stuff shows up at the worst times. For solo players, it can feel really overwhelming, but don’t worry—once you get the hang of the game, these encounters will seem easier. Skeleton ships are a bit tanky, but as an experienced gamer, you’ll likely find a way to manage them. And remember, if the megalodon shows up, try to head towards an island; they don’t usually chase you if you haven’t attacked them first.
