Feeling Burnt Out on Consoles as More Cool Games Launch on PC

-

I’ve been gaming since I was eight, and now at 34, I’m starting to wonder why I still own a console. Recently, I saw the trailer for Dreadmoor, which looks super interesting, but it’s a PC exclusive on Steam with no console release in sight. It feels like all the unique and exciting new games are coming out on PC these days, and I’m definitely feeling some serious FOMO. Has anyone else felt this way about consoles lately?

Yeah, that’s pretty much the trend these days. Indie and unique games tend to launch on PC first, and sometimes only there. Consoles are great for chill AAA experiences and couch gaming, but if you crave weird, innovative titles and niche genres, PC is where the magic happens. Also, most big console exclusives these days eventually hit PC anyway, so that’s another thing to consider.

Definitely feels like my tastes have evolved over time. Back in the day, I was fine with just the console offerings, but now they seem to miss a lot of what I’m interested in.

I keep consoles around for local multiplayer with friends and family, but for everything else, I’m mostly on PC (and my Steam Deck too). The ability to replay old PC titles decades later is huge — something consoles just don’t really offer anymore without a lot of hassle. Plus, PC game sales and subscriptions like Game Pass Ultimate give you tons of options for cheap.

If you’re serious about chasing the latest and greatest, there’s really no better platform than PC. It has way more options, and you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good rig. Even mid-range builds or laptops can get you into most games smoothly. If money is tight, maybe start saving for a decent PC setup — I switched early in my career and haven’t looked back since.

Yeah I’m planning on it once I get a better job. Right now finances are a bit rough, but PC gaming definitely seems like the way to go.

Honestly, if you’re feeling boxed in by consoles, you might want to grab a gaming laptop. They’re pretty versatile — portable, decent graphics cards, and support pretty much every PC game out there. You can usually find some solid models around $800 on sale that come with current gen GPUs which is a great value for what you get.

Yeah, running a newer Acer Nitro or similar and replacing it every few years can actually be a better investment than buying top-tier consoles constantly.

I get the frustration. This generation feels way slower and weaker compared to the golden era of PS3 and Xbox 360. Lots of great stuff hides on Steam now, which feels like the place for the most interesting games. Consoles seem mostly stuck with late ports or a handful of exclusives, which can be a bummer when you see games like Dreadmoor bypassing consoles entirely.
