Hey everyone! I’ve recently started playing Final Fantasy XIV and I’m two weeks in. So far, I’ve explored quite a bit and completed some story quests, but I’m starting to feel bored. This is my first MMORPG, and while I enjoy wandering the map and checking out dungeons, I’m curious about what really excites you about this game. Why do you keep playing?
Also, I have to admit that I’m not getting much out of the story quests. They’re starting to feel tedious, and I often find myself skipping the text. What do you think? Am I missing something? And don’t get me started on how fast everyone runs through dungeons—it’s hard to take in the experience!

Hey, I get what you’re saying! For me, the characters and story did keep me engaged, even if they aren’t in the same league as the iconic Final Fantasy stories like VII or IX. But yeah, SO many fetch quests. My biggest issue was that after plowing through the base game and the first expansion, I felt like I hadn’t really found anything special in it. A lot of the dungeons just turned into straight lines with no exploration. I hear that gets better later, but it can be rough sticking around to find out!
You’re definitely not alone in feeling that way! A lot of fans say that A Realm Reborn (ARR) isn’t the best part of the game. It’s pretty common to find quests that feel like boring fetch quests or just “go here and kill this guy”. I think a lot of players feel the story is dull early on, and it can be a slog to get through 40+ hours just to find out if you enjoy it. They really should make the start a bit more welcoming for newcomers!
Absolutely! It feels like the community has a tendency to praise the game once you’re past ARR, but that’s mostly because only the hardcore fans stick around to continue playing the expansions.
Yeah, I totally understand the frustration with players rushing through dungeons! It’s not quite as bad in more advanced content where you actually get some nice exploration modes added in. It’s kind of a shame because the initial dungeons can have some interesting designs that often go unnoticed. If you’re interested, check out the Explorer Mode; it lets you take your time in the dungeons!
Honestly, I’ve heard that Shadowbringers is a complete game changer! The gameplay evolves too, so if you push through, you might find more engaging mechanics and quests waiting for you.
