I’ve got an i7-14700HX paired with an RTX 4070 MSI laptop that’s fully updated with the latest Windows, NVIDIA drivers, and BIOS. I recently followed a tutorial on the IMON tweak where I set the slope to 50, offset to -31999, and chose a negative prefix. While it works well, showing a max TDP of only 32 during Cinebench and temperatures around 75-80 with a speed of over 5 GHz, I’m facing these annoying lag spikes in games like GTA V. My FPS, CPU, and GPU power all drop below 50 for about 5-10 seconds every 5-15 seconds—making gaming pretty frustrating. I even tried using just the IMON slope without the offset, but the problem persists. Really looking for some advice here!

It sounds like your VRMs might be overheating and causing thermal throttling, which can happen more often than you’d think, even on laptops. Though it’s not as common, it can still occur. Overclocked setups like yours can sometimes struggle with power delivery, especially under heavy loads.
I’ve done some thermal management with PTM7950 on both the CPU and GPU, plus Upsiren UX Pro Ultra thermal putty on the VRAM. I keep temps under 75 degrees C, and even applied an undervolt to manage heat, but the lag spikes are still there. Pretty baffling!
