Hey everyone! I recently got a Steam Deck after losing my PC in a house fire, and I was really excited to jump into Diablo 4 since I’ve only had a Switch since launch. The game usually runs well, but I’m having some major issues with it crashing during nearly every gaming session. Sometimes I’m able to play for about 40 minutes, but other times it crashes after 10 or 15 minutes. The game will freeze and then boot me back to my library, requiring me to relaunch it. Occasionally, it will even verify the installation and leave me staring at a black screen. I haven’t had these problems with any other games I’ve tried like Hades 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, or Dark Souls 3. Any tips or fixes? I’m not super tech-savvy, but I can follow instructions!

Are you playing the Steam version or the BattleNet version? Game launchers can have memory leaks that cause crashes when they fill up the memory. To help prevent this, you might want to set the launcher to close when the game starts. If you’re using BattleNet, you can find this option in the settings. Also, consider increasing your swap file size on your device; it should ideally be larger than 1GB, like 16GB or even 32GB, to prevent issues during gameplay. You can do this through commands or a user-friendly tool like Cryo Utilities.
I haven’t experienced any issues with Diablo 4, and I’m using the Steam version. It seems like the problems might be more related to the BattleNet version or how it’s interacting with the Steam Deck.
I’m playing it through Steam but did have to log into BattleNet initially. Could that be causing it to run in the background?
