Hey everyone! I recently built a new gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, an RTX 4070 Super, and 32GB of RAM. Initially, I was thrilled playing Cyberpunk and other demanding single-player games, as everything ran perfectly smooth. However, I’ve been running into serious FPS drops, especially when playing multiplayer games and select single-player titles like Tarkov, Atomfall, and JWE2. These drops can take my FPS down to around 20-40 several times every minute, mostly during action-packed moments like gunfights or explosions. I’ve checked my CPU, GPU, RAM, and disk usage, and nothing seems maxed out during these drops. I even swapped monitors and cables, reset and updated my BIOS, and even fresh-installed both Windows 10 and 11. The store I bought it from said everything looked good on their end too. I’m starting to wonder if the problem lies with my old Ethernet cable or maybe even the power supply from my house. I really want to enjoy these games smoothly without interruptions, especially in VR. Has anyone else faced similar issues or have ideas on what I could try next? Cheers!

I’ve heard that Tarkov and similar multiplayer games can be quite demanding, especially for AMD CPUs due to their memory handling. It might be normal to experience some frame drops in intense situations, but tuning your RAM could help. Just to note, the X3D series should be pretty effective for those games based on benchmarks, so it’s odd you’re experiencing drops.
Honestly, I doubt the Ethernet cable is the root of your FPS issues. It might seem like everything’s fine with your internet, but a bad cable generally wouldn’t cause these types of FPS drops during gameplay. It’s worth testing your setup with a different cable to eliminate that variable, but I think the culprit is elsewhere.
Thanks for the input! I didn’t think it would be the cable either, but I’m down to try anything at this stage, including testing at a friend’s house.
It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting already! One thing to try is to make sure you’re running your games with minimal background applications. Disable any auto-start programs that aren’t necessary, and see if that helps. Also, keep an eye on your temperatures when the drops happen; maybe it’s throttling even if it doesn’t seem to be. What cooling setup are you using?
My CPU and GPU temps stay below 70°C, and there’s no throttling. I’ve only got essential drivers and Steam installed since the Windows reinstall, but the problem still shows in games like WoT where temps are in the mid-50s.
Yeah, it’s not just Tarkov either; I see these drops in other games too, even ones that should run on lower-end systems like War Thunder and WoT. The comparisons I’ve seen with similar setups show way smoother performance than I’m getting.
