I’ve been noticing that many players in my guild utilize a lot of macros and addons for maximizing their DPS and managing their abilities. As a Marksman Hunter, I’m curious about what tools and macros you guys consider essential for your gameplay. What do you rely on day to day to improve your performance?

Here’s my go-to list: 1) Always have a nochanneling macro for abilities to keep your flow smooth. 2) Use @cursor macros for Volleys and traps. 3) Couple your trinket with Trueshot for more DPS. 4) Quick cancellation macros for Feign Death and Disengage to avoid getting caught off guard. 5) Misdirect macros for quick tank support, especially in Mythic+. Oh, and a few mouseover macros for stunning and interrupting are super useful too!
A+, no notes on your list!
In terms of addons, I like using Hekili to help with my shot rotations. It’s not flawless but really assists with keeping my DPS up. Just be careful, it can lead to bad habits if you rely on it too much! Also, I’ve started using a WeakAura for my Trinket and Precision to maximize efficiency while raiding. It’s a game changer!
I’ve heard mixed reviews about Hekili. I might give it a shot, but I want to learn the rotation without it first.
Definitely! Balancing using it and mastering manual play is key.
I’m a huge fan of @cursor macros, especially for placing traps and casting Volley. They help me avoid casting into ceilings, which can be frustrating! Nowadays, I mostly rely on WeakAuras for tracking important buffs like Trueshot and Trick Shots. They make a noticeable difference!
LOL, right? It’s a pain when you cast and realize it went to the roof instead of the ground.
I recently modified my @cursor macros with a modifier key, making it easier to cast normally if needed. It’s really improved my gameplay!
I also rely on a specific WeakAura for Trick Shot. It’s straightforward to set up and gives a visual indication when it’s available. It delivers a quick glance at my crucial buffs without diverting focus from combat mechanics, which is a huge plus!
Definitely useful! Tracking is so much easier when you can keep an eye on it in your peripheral vision.
I’ve made my own timer using WeakAuras that ticks down. It’s perfect for keeping track of things while watching the battle.
One key macro I can’t live without is the “nochanneling” macro for abilities like Rapid Fire. It helps prevent me from accidentally canceling a channel too early. For instance, using ‘/use [nochanneling:Rapid Fire] Aimed Shot’ ensures that I keep the full effect of Rapid Fire before moving on to my next ability. It’s a solid macro for maintaining DPS uptime!
Absolutely! It’s a lifesaver for any class with channeled abilities. I have one similar that covers several abilities to prevent canceling during key moments.
Is canceling the full channel really a DPS loss? I’ve been looking into this!
This is spot on! I also find WeakAuras for tracking Trick Shots aesthetically pleasing and functional.
