Hey everyone! My husband, who’s 62, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and I’ve just gotten him a PS4 for Christmas. His doctor mentioned that gaming might help moderate some of his symptoms. I’m seeking recommendations for easy first-person shooter campaigns—offline only!—since he was really into FPS games about 15 years ago. Thanks for any suggestions!

If you’re open to suggestions beyond pure shooting, you might enjoy ‘Slime Rancher’—it’s adorable and has FPS elements. For a mix of genres, ‘Wolfenstein II’ offers a gripping story with lots of action. And don’t forget about older classics like ‘Prey (2017)’ or ‘Borderlands’ that bring adventure with adjustable difficulty. These games can provide engaging content without overwhelming gameplay.
For some casual fun without pressure, consider ‘Subnautica’. It’s more about exploring than shooting, but still first person. ‘Titanfall 2’ is another awesome single-player campaign, though it’s more fast-paced with lots of movement. Not quite FPS, but can be relaxing! ‘PowerWash Simulator’ is also first-person and super chill, if you’re okay stepping out of shooters.
‘Deep Rock Galactic’ could be an interesting choice. It’s a shooter with multiple difficulty settings and offers a co-op mode that’s fun and forgiving. Plus, the community’s pretty welcoming. ‘Homefront: The Revolution’ has an enjoyable campaign too, though it’s not as well-known as some others.
‘Far Cry 6’ is solid due to its extensive accessibility options. You could also try ‘Fallout 4’, which is more of an RPG but offers first-person play at your own speed. Another suggestion is ‘Call of Duty’ on easy mode; it’s straightforward with plenty of action. Don’t sleep on ‘Borderlands 2’, as it has tons of character options that can suit different play styles and paces.
Someone mentioned that exercise can help with Parkinson’s, so maybe look into activities like boxing. ‘Rock Steady Boxing’ is a great program for Parkinson’s patients. As for games, slower-paced ones or those with customizable controls, like ‘Doom (2016)’ on an easier mode, might still be quite fun!
For those interested in co-op or multiplayer experiences, ‘Far Cry’ series is perfect for solo exploring at a comfortable pace. Want something with a bit more action? ‘Doom (2016)’ or ‘Modern Warfare 2019’ on easy could be suitable. Plus, ‘Borderlands’ is always a favorite—with a chaotic, heartwarming twist!
If he’s looking for a first-person shooter, ‘Bioshock’ is a great pick. It’s got difficulty settings, so he can dial it back to easy, and it’s very story-driven. If you’re open to third-person games, the ‘Uncharted’ series on easy mode offers fantastic narratives. Even though it’s not FPS, ‘The Last of Us’ is incredibly engaging and worth checking out.
