I’ve been doing some digging and I couldn’t find any solid proof that a Pokémon gains happiness faster if it’s of the opposite gender to the player character. I thought I had seen this mentioned somewhere, either online or in-game. If it’s not happiness, maybe there’s another mechanic influenced by the player’s gender, aside from visual changes or text differences. Can anyone share their thoughts or experiences on this?

From what I’ve gathered, the player’s gender doesn’t really impact anything in gameplay. The only noticeable changes are related to the character’s appearance, and maybe how your rivals or friends are presented in certain games. But as far as mechanics go, it’s pretty much neutral.
I really don’t think it affects anything either. My playthroughs usually revolve around one gender of Pokémon each time, and I’ve had no different experiences based on that. If it did, I’d probably stop because that’d be super weird!
Exactly! It’d be such a strange mechanic if true. I like to keep my teams balanced without worrying about gender impact.
Honestly, I’ve never heard of any gameplay benefit from the player’s gender. It’d be odd for such a mechanic to exist.
I’ve always wanted Pokémon to explore gender differences more. They gave Pikachu and Wobbuffett some variants; it’d be awesome to see that for other Pokémon that clearly have a male or female look, like Machop or Popplio.
Yeah, it’s mainly cosmetic. I was hoping for more gender-specific mechanics too, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.
