I’m relatively new to this game and I’ve been wondering if leveling up, wearing high-quality armor, or wielding powerful weapons actually makes a difference on expert difficulty. For example, I got some pretty decent armor at level 5 after fighting a bandit, and it seemed to reduce the damage I was taking. But then I faced another bandit in the caves, and out of nowhere, I was taking a ton of damage! It feels like the damage I receive is just random and not based on the enemies’ levels or gear. I thought I was getting better and doing more damage, but sometimes it feels like I’m just not making any progress, which is pretty discouraging. If armor and leveling don’t really impact gameplay, what’s the point of trying to improve?

Not really. I noticed that on expert difficulty, the game gets a lot tougher. In the previous version, decent gear and skills kept the gameplay pretty balanced, but now it seems different bandit types have specific strengths. Like, certain races hit way harder than others, so you might think you’ve got great gear, but a Redguard could wipe the floor with you! Focus more on honing your skills to master rank instead of relying solely on better gear early on. It definitely has an impact as you progress!
Thanks for the tips! Does skill building help on expert difficulty too?
