I’ve been enjoying my PS2, especially playing NHL ’04, and I’m thinking about diving into another Final Fantasy game. Can anyone share if Final Fantasy X and X-2 still hold up in terms of graphics and gameplay? I know there are modern remakes and emulators out there—are there features in those that are must-haves? Also, I’ve heard PS1 games are backwards compatible with the PS2. Has anyone tried playing Final Fantasy VIII or IX on the PS2, and how did that go?

If you can, I recommend playing FFX on PC instead. The HD remaster has some neat mods that bring back the original PS2 character faces, plus you get awesome quality of life features like no random encounters and faster gameplay.
Honestly, they still hold up pretty well! Sure, the modern remasters are more polished, but the originals are still a great experience.
I agree! The remasters might be better, but there’s just something special about the PS2 versions.
