I’ve been a fan of Final Fantasy since the original NES release in the late 80s, and one feature I always enjoyed in Final Fantasy II (or IV in Japan) was being able to customize the message box background color. I noticed this feature is missing in the Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy IV. I’m curious if anyone else misses this option. Does Final Fantasy VI also skip this feature?

I think the reason for the missing feature could be linked to the fact that the engine had to accommodate all six games. It might have been a trade-off that wasn’t prioritized since the classic blue menu is pretty iconic in the series.
Yeah, it’s a small thing, but I definitely missed the ability to customize the menu UI, especially for Final Fantasy VI. That game had some great options for dialogue box transparency and custom borders!
I remember playing the PlayStation versions, and I loved being able to change menu colors! It really helped to set the mood for each game. It’s a bummer that the Pixel Remasters don’t have that.
Exactly! I usually set the colors based on the game’s mood—like blue for the beginning of FF7 and greenish tones for later parts. It can’t just be me who enjoyed that!
I also really loved the customization feature on the original SNES version. It helped create a unique vibe for each playthrough, depending on the color palette you chose.
I bought the games digitally, and each one was a separate purchase, so it doesn’t seem like it would be a huge deal to add in such a feature. Not sure how it works with physical copies.
