I’ve been playing FFXIV and made it through the main story of A Realm Reborn (ARR). While it was mostly okay, I found the gameplay to become pretty repetitive. The quests mainly involve talking to people, taking out monsters, or fetching items, which became boring quickly. Combat did feel a bit more varied when I hit level 50, but it still lacks excitement. I even tried switching to Scholar for a change, but I found myself just casting Ruin over and over during dungeon runs, which isn’t fun at all.
I’m curious if the gameplay becomes more diverse in the expansions. Do the quests improve with more variety? Also, are there better ways to level up new jobs than just grinding through Duty Finder and Hunts? I’ve heard the story gets better after ARR, but if the gameplay still feels like I’m just a glorified courier, I might just watch it online instead.

Yeah, combat improves, but the questing style remains pretty much the same: go here, talk to this person, then kill some mobs. The game is designed to ease newcomers in, which means older content can feel way too easy now. If you’re not enjoying the current pace, it might be a sign to take a break or try a different class for a change of pace.
Expansions do add a bit more variety to gameplay. While the core quest structure remains focused on talking and killing, combat definitely improves as you level up. Doing daily roulettes is a solid way to level up faster, and Heavensward even offers a stamp book for weekly quests that grant extra XP. You’ll definitely enjoy some new challenges as you progress!
Honestly, the low-level combat can feel pretty bland since they’ve watered it down over the years. But as you level, you’ll gain new abilities that add more to your rotation. While questing doesn’t change much, Heavensward introduces some solo instances that break the monotony a bit. If you’re craving a challenge, try the Extreme Trials at level 50; they’re way tougher than usual content!
I totally get that! Sometimes you just want something that feels fresh, and not all classes hit right away.
