I’ve been wondering if anyone else has the same “problem” as I do. I often find myself calling my Pokémon by the names I’ve given them instead of their original names. For instance, I have a Chandelure that I named Kazimi, so whenever I see one, I think, ‘Oh, it’s Kazimi!’ I also have a Carbink named Binky, an Oshawott named Ozzy (which, for some reason, doesn’t carry over to Samurott), and a Primarina I call Pebble. I’ve been playing Pokémon since Gen 4 and I’ve named almost all of my Pokémon, so I feel like this affects how I view them. Does anyone else do this?

I actually have a plush Shroomish that I call The Burger because it’s the perfect size for one! So every time I spot a wild Shroomish, I can’t help but shout, ‘Look! A wild Burger!’ It’s just hard not to connect nicknames to the Pokémon now.
Yeah, that’s totally fair. I used to just nickname everything, and I’d forget their actual names. It can get confusing sometimes, haha!
Totally! I once had a yellow Flabebe I named Goopy, thanks to my mom suggesting the name during a Y Nuzlocke. Goopy made it through the whole game, so now every Florges I encounter reminds me of him! Also, I caught a Paldean Wooper and named it WHOOP, which stuck with me. Now every Clodsire is just ‘Whoop’ to me. It’s crazy how nicknames can stick!
How do you do a Nuzlocke with encounters in Scarlet?
That naming theme is super clever!
I’ve never really gotten into nicknaming Pokémon. I feel like calling them by different names would confuse me!
That’s not a problem at all! Some of us enjoy giving silly nicknames to our Pokémon. I named my first charcadet ‘Calcifer,’ and now I can’t see the whole species without thinking of that name!
I actually remember some of the most random nicknames instead of their real names. Like, I have a Falinks named Clatterpillar, and that’s what I always call them! It’s like the original name just fades away once you mix in a nickname.
I don’t typically name my Pokémon, but I can understand why you’d do this! I once watched the anime, and now I can’t help but think of every Vulpix as ‘Snowy’ since then! It’s like their names just stick with you after watching it.
I felt the same way after the Sun/Moon anime! And for me, Cosmog will always be Nebby.
Right? Snowy is such a cute name!
For a while, I called all my Dunsparce ‘Tsuchinokos’ because that’s what I named mine in Scarlet. It’s hard to shake that habit!
For some Pokémon, I just can’t remember their names! For example, I always call Lucario ‘Cinnamon’ ever since I used one in Sword and Shield. And I can’t help but think of all Lucarios as that now!
That’s such a cute name for a Shroomish!
