I’ve noticed that I have this weird obsession with catching Pokémon I’ve used in previous games, especially when I’m trying to complete the Pokédex in postgame. For instance, I have to catch a Tropius since I used it as an HM slave back in Platinum. Is this a common thing, or am I just odd?

You’re not alone! Many players have their ‘comfort Pokémon’ they catch each time, even if they don’t need them anymore. It’s like reliving old adventures with friends! That Tropius as an HM slave is a classic choice too! Do you actually use them in battle, or are they just for the nostalgic vibes?
I totally get that! I had a Trace Gardevoir in Emerald that I loved, so I always try to catch one when she’s available. And Braviary is another staple for me—first used it in Sun and now I always have to get one when I restart. It’s funny how certain Pokémon stick with you through different generations!
Gardevoir is great! I used her in Legends: Arceus, but I lean more towards Gallade. I was so bummed when Talonflame wasn’t in the base Sword/Shield. That was half the reason I got the DLC!
I mainly focus on Pokédex completion now, so old favorites make a comeback for sure! Even if they don’t make the final cut, I often use them for specific tasks—like Gallade for catching and Hatterene for raids. What’s your take on those Pokémon?
Hatterene is a solid choice from the newer games! I haven’t done many Pokédex completions, but I was contemplating one in Scarlet/Violet, although the performance dips make it tough to play for long.
I just catch them for nostalgia! I prefer to build a team with region-specific Pokémon, but I make exceptions—like having Talonflame in my current Scarlet/Violet team. What about you?
