I’ve been thinking about how my gaming habits seem to align with the seasons. I call myself a “seasonal gamer” because I notice that certain genres appeal to me more depending on the time of year. For instance, during the colder months, I find myself diving into fantasy RPGs, whether it’s brand new titles or nostalgic classics. There’s something about the chilly weather that makes me crave that genre. It’s almost like a routine for me – I can’t imagine playing Skyrim on a scorching summer day! Instead, during those warm months, I shift towards games that fit the vibe, like Sea of Thieves or some action shooters. I even feel a bit ‘OCD’ about it – like I *have to* switch to fantasy games when it gets cold, or it just feels off. Does anyone else feel this way or have seasonal preferences in their gaming?

I totally get what you mean! I think a lot of us have seasonal habits when it comes to gaming. Like, for me, fall is all about horror games – I won’t touch them until then. And December? That’s Skyrim time for sure! The nostalgic classics come out for the winter too. In spring, I’m all in on indies and rogue-likes, and summer is prime time for multiplayer games with friends.
I use games to combat seasonal blues. When it’s gloomy outside, I’m loading up AC: Valhalla because it feels bright and beautiful. As soon as spring hits, I tuck it away! Maybe it’s an association with how I feel based on the weather.
I can relate! I see Vikings and cold weather as perfect together. It’s such an underrated game in the Assassin’s Creed series!
I’ve noticed that I dive into fighting games in the spring for some reason. Not sure why, but it’s just a pattern I’ve seen happen over the years. I’m thinking of jumping back into Street Fighter soon since it’s that time again!
So true! I feel the same, especially with RPGs in the winter. It just fits! Spring indie games and summer fun with pals are my go-to as well.
