I’m curious about what happens to souls that get trapped in Soul Gems. Specifically, do they go to the Soul Cairn during the events of this game? I know the Ideal Masters were once mortal, so I wonder if the Soul Cairn has always existed or if it came to be later.

Not all souls go to the Soul Cairn. For example, there’s this Telvanni mage who was soul trapped, and he claims he can escape. He’s powerful enough to even cast spells while in a gem, and during celebrations, his soul can jump out of the gem to join in!
