Have you ever watched a Let’s Play of a game that you enjoyed so much that you felt like you cheated the developers out of money? A friend of mine recently got me hooked on an old Markiplier video where he played an interactive story named Buried. The story and ambiance were incredible, and Markiplier’s narration just took it to another level for me. I ended up buying the game on Steam mainly because I loved it so much, even though I don’t plan to play it myself. I’m curious if anyone else has had similar experiences!

I feel the same with games that are primarily story-based. Watching a Let’s Play feels like I’ve experienced the game already. For example, I watched a full playthrough of Doki Doki Literature Club, and even though I loved it, I felt like I didn’t need to play it myself after seeing all the choices and endings. But I still bought it to show some love for the developers!
Absolutely, I have a long list of games I’ve just watched instead of played. Like, I breezed through a Let’s Play of God of War and thought, ‘Why would I ever sit and play this when the story is amazing to watch?’ I still bought it because it looked visually stunning, but I know I won’t play it anytime soon. Just too busy with other stuff!
Exactly! I think seeing how others play can actually encourage us to get the game, even if we don’t end up playing it ourselves. Plus, it supports the devs who create awesome content.
Yeah, I’ve definitely felt that way, especially with narrative-driven games. For instance, I watched a bunch of Let’s Plays of To the Moon and really enjoyed it, but after seeing the entire story, I lost interest in actually playing it myself. I did buy it on sale, though, just to support the devs. It’s tough because some games are really fun to watch, but I’d rather not spoil the experience for myself by playing it after watching.
Totally get that! Sometimes the story is the best part, and knowing the twists beforehand really changes the experience of the game. I think it’s nice to support the creators by buying it, even if you don’t play it!
Same here! I’ve enjoyed games that are better as a spectator sport. Sometimes, it’s just easier to watch someone else crunch through all the puzzles and decisions.
