Hey, fellow pirates! I was out doing skeleton forts with my crew during an event when we got sunk by another ship. I stayed behind to guard our fort while my team brought the ship back. The enemy sloop that got us got distracted by our supplies, so I seized the chance to get my revenge! I swam under their boat and released a keg like I’ve done in the past. It blew up, but I noticed that the ship didn’t show any signs of sinking—no creaks, no rushing water, nothing at all. When I tried to board, the crew seemed totally unbothered about fixing their ship. So, I’m confused: do kegs not damage ships if they explode underneath? Did it just do less damage this time? Or is it possible there’s a bug in the game? I swear I’ve used this tactic successfully before!

Totally agree with what others said. To really do some damage, you need to get that keg on board in the hull! I’ve noticed some weird stuff too, like they probably nerfed keg damage to exterior surfaces after some flotsam issues. Not cool!
Most crews aren’t that great at the game, so they usually sink from one keg explosion. Sounds like you just ran into a crew that actually knew how to repair a few holes and handle the water!
Yeah, it seems like kegs do less damage when they explode outside the ship. They probably only caused a couple of tier 1 or tier 2 holes, which are pretty quick to patch up. If you really want to make damage count, it’s better to get them below deck!
Has it always been like that? I could’ve sworn I sunk ships using this method before; maybe I’m just imagining it.
When did they change that? I’m curious, seems like I’ve sunk ships this way plenty of times!
