Hey everyone! I’m currently using Linux Mint with an Nvidia GPU, but I’m planning to upgrade to an AMD GPU soon. Before making the swap, do I need to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, or can I just leave them as is?

You technically don’t have to uninstall the Nvidia drivers, but doing so can help save some disk space. Unlike Windows, Linux handles drivers differently during boot, so it shouldn’t cause any issues if you leave them in there.
Yeah, you should uninstall the Nvidia drivers. Linux Mint already has the amdgpu driver included in the kernel, so it’s a good idea to clear out the old drivers to avoid any potential conflicts.
If you’re getting a newer AMD card, be aware that you might need a newer version of Mint or a specific kernel. Just plan ahead and check that Mint supports your new hardware.
In theory, your system won’t boot the Nvidia driver without the corresponding hardware. It might be simpler to leave them installed in case you decide to switch back. Just keep an eye on your kernel version because newer AMD cards might need updated support.
