Hey everyone, I know this might sound silly, but I’ve never played either of the Horizon games, and I’m really curious to start. With how long they can be, I’m wondering if I can jump straight into Forbidden West and maybe catch up on the story with a recap video. Is it worth it to go through the first game, or can I just hop into the sequel? Thanks for your help!

For real, you don’t want to miss Zero Dawn! The storytelling is better in the first game, so going in order is definitely the way to go.
No worries, but yes, it’s a must to play the first one. If you go in without the background, a lot of references and story arcs will probably leave you scratching your head.
Zero Dawn gives a lot of background details you won’t want to miss. Jumping straight into Forbidden West could leave you confused about character motivations and plot points.
Definitely start with the first game! Both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are fantastic, especially if you can get the Complete Edition with all the extras. You’ll get to enjoy a well-rounded experience with stealth, combat, and crafting mechanics that are core to the series.
It’s pretty much like asking if you should watch The Two Towers before The Fellowship of the Ring. You’ll miss a lot of context and story that builds up in the first game if you skip right to the second.
You’ll absolutely want to play Zero Dawn first. It sets up the characters and lore in a way that makes Forbidden West so much richer. Trust me, it’ll enhance your gameplay experience!
