I’ve been a fan of Assassin’s Creed since the beginning, like playing Assassin’s Creed II, which got me my first platinum trophy. However, I’m really behind on the story—not having played games after Black Flag. My OCD makes me feel like I need to play every game in order, so I haven’t touched Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, or Mirage. I’m worried I’ve missed too much story to enjoy Shadows. Should I just jump in and play it anyway?

You definitely don’t need to catch up on the story to enjoy Shadows. It’s designed to be a standalone experience, and the modern-day narrative hasn’t been connected to Valhalla. Personally, I think it’s the best mix of the new RPG style and classic gameplay.
Not at all! Shadows doesn’t tie back to earlier storylines. It’s more focused on gameplay than the old plots, and it plays great too—like, visually, it’s one of the best games out there right now. No need to worry about plot holes from missing games.
That’s honestly a relief to hear! I was worried about getting lost in the plot, like how you’d need to watch a ton of Marvel movies to get some of the newer films. Glad to know I can just dive in!
