I bought Diablo IV when it first released and played a bit, but then I set it aside. Now I’m interested in checking out the Berserk collaboration event. However, I’ve noticed Diablo IV has introduced seasons. Do I need to buy these seasons separately to participate in the collaboration content?

You don’t have to purchase the seasons themselves since they are free to play. The actual seasonal content everyone can access without paying, but if you want extra goodies or cosmetics, you’d have to buy the seasonal track or battle pass sort of thing. So you’re good to jump into the season and enjoy the Berserk event without spending more.
Basically, playing the seasons is free and part of the game, but paying for the battle pass gives you extra unlocks and perks. So if you’re just here for the collab and the story stuff, you can join in without paying, but if you want to get all the cool extras, that’s when spending money comes in.
Just a heads up, the Berserk collab is mostly cosmetic stuff like skins and maybe some gear appearances. So if you’re expecting a whole new game mode or story, it might not be that. Still cool for fans of the Berserk series, but don’t go in expecting huge gameplay changes.
Since you own the base game, you can play any of the seasons without extra purchase. However, there was a big expansion called Vessel of Hatred released after launch. If you want to play the latest and biggest content beyond seasonal stuff, you might want to consider getting that expansion.
