I’m trying to figure out if it’s essential for me to own both Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. I know there are differences like exclusive Pokémon, maps, and the ability to trade, but I’m getting mixed messages about how different the stories actually are. Some say you really need both to complete the Pokédex. I already have Pokémon Diamond, Black, Black 2, and HeartGold, but I’m on the lookout for Platinum, although the prices are pretty steep. Can anyone clarify whether I really need both versions?

You’re a bit confused! The main differences between Black 2 and White 2 are mostly about version-exclusive Pokémon and a few location tweaks, not about the story. If you’re serious about completing the Pokédex, you will need both versions to access all the unique Pokémon, just like with any other paired Pokémon games. I’d recommend trading online for the exclusives, or if you’re tech-savvy, consider using a save editor if you have access to a 3DS. It’s totally worth it!
With the games you already own, you can get pretty close to completing the Pokédex, but to do it fully, you’ll need to trade between two systems. So yeah, in the end, having both Black 2 and White 2 is necessary if you want to catch everything yourself!
Gahh, my wallet is about to be upset lol. Thanks for the heads up!
For completing your Pokédex, you really need to think about the Tornadus and Thundurus, which are exclusive to the original Black and White games and not available in the sequels. It does get complicated since many other Pokémon are exclusive as well. Just a heads-up, the Cloud trio can only be found in Black and White 1. So yes, you might want both versions if you’re aiming for 100% completion!
Thanks for clarifying! Looks like I’ll need to get both then. My wallet is going to hate me, though!
