I just upgraded to an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT from Nvidia, and I’m having some trouble getting smooth performance in games, especially with heavily modded ones. For instance, I’m currently playing The Witcher 3 with the Ultimate Modlist, which looks stunning, but the performance isn’t quite as smooth as I anticipated given the power of my new GPU. I’ve been exploring the AMD Adrenalin settings and various in-game options, but it’s a bit overwhelming. Do most of you fine-tune every single graphics option like shadows, ambient occlusion, and post-processing, or do you just select a preset and make a few minor adjustments? Also, should I bother with Adrenalin features like Anti-Lag and Chill, or stick mostly to in-game settings? Any tips from AMD users or those with mod-heavy setups would be super helpful. Thanks!

I have a 9070xt too, and I’ve learned to set graphics settings manually over time. For The Witcher 3, I suggest using FSR 4 with the optical scaler mod—it’s a great way to upscale without losing much in quality. Also, disable Nvidia’s HairWorks since it doesn’t play nicely with AMD cards, and lower grass settings because they impact performance without a big visual difference. Just a heads up, The Witcher Enhanced Edition can be CPU-heavy, so you might be running into some bottlenecking issues.
Not really. I usually just adjust overall graphic settings to ensure Vsync is off and disable motion blur. Unless the game is performing poorly, I don’t dig deep into the settings unless I really want to squeeze out some extra frames.
There are definitely some settings that significantly impact performance without hurting visuals much. Look at things like cloud quality, shadow settings, and foliage detail—those often make a huge difference. And some games may have specific settings that are buggy, so adjusting them can provide major performance boosts.
Totally. It feels mandatory nowadays. Even if I ended up with a top-of-the-line card like a 5090, there would still be games where I need to tweak settings to get a decent frame rate. With my current 6900xt, I often have to use FSR set to balanced just to keep things playable. For instance, in Stalker 2, lowering the RT quality and cranking everything to high is a must for decent fps.
Yeah, with the 9070XT, I find myself diving into Adrenalin quite a bit, but then again, I’ve also moved up to 4K from 1080p, so it’s kind of to be expected. Performance tuning becomes necessary, especially at higher resolutions.
