I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety about my RTX 4090, especially after hearing about the recent 5090 issues. For two years, I’ve had it running with an MSI native 3.0 cable, but my OCD made me paranoid about it melting. I got so anxious about the cable being bent that I tried to reroute it, but in my panic, I pulled on the connector without releasing the tab. Thankfully, it wasn’t melted, but now I’m freaking out if I damaged anything by pulling on it or bending it too much. It’s frustrating because I was using the computer without problems before. Now, I can’t even use my PC without obsessing over what I might have done. Is my anxiety over this justified? Should I be worried about the cable or the card itself? I’m even considering going back to my old 3080 build because all this is taking the fun out of gaming for me.

I feel you! It’s tough when you’re dealing with anxiety about your setup. But usually, as long as you haven’t physically damaged your hardware or connectors, everything should be fine. You might even want to talk to a professional about your worries with the melting issues. It might help you separate what’s real worry versus just anxiety.
It sounds like your OCD is definitely playing a big role here. If your system worked fine for two years before all this, it’s highly likely that the cable and card are fine. Just be careful with inserting and removing connectors in the future, as that can cause wear and tear. Honestly, if you’re super worried, monitoring your system with MSI Afterburner could help ease your mind. Just set the power limit lower, and you can play without as much stress!
Yeah, man, it definitely seems like you’re overreacting due to your OCD. Your cable and card should be in good shape. I totally get that the fear of melting can drive you crazy, but as long as it’s working, you should be okay. If it helps, just give yourself a break and try to enjoy gaming as much as you can. Don’t let anxiety take away something you love!
