Hey everyone! I’m looking for some thoughts on my recent PC build. I paired my Sapphire Pulse 9070XT with a 7800X3D instead of the 9800X3D. Let me explain why: I’m based in the US and after waiting for stock levels to improve, I snagged the 7800X3D for around $430 (including tax). The 9800X3D wasn’t available or was priced way too high.
Now, I’m curious about whether this setup will deliver a noticeable difference in performance for most games at 1440p, especially on high to ultra settings. The list of games I play includes:
– Minecraft (Java with mods, and Bedrock with Visuals)
– Call of Duty (Warzone and Multiplayer)
– Mortal Kombat 1
– Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle R (with mods)
– Cyberpunk 2077
– Phasmophobia
– Red Dead Redemption 2
– Hollow Knight and Silksong (when it drops)
– Garry’s Mod
– Ark Survival Ascended
– Marvel Rivals
Since this is my first gaming PC, I’d really appreciate any insight you can offer! Thanks in advance!

There’s really not much performance difference between the two CPUs. The only real advantage of the 9800X3D is slightly better power efficiency. Overall, both are powerful enough for your GPU, so you’re set!
Dude, you’re stressing way too much. The 7800X3D is a fantastic chip, and it pairs well with your 9070XT! The 9800X3D may perform slightly better, but not enough to make your experience any worse. You’re more likely to hit GPU limits anyway. Just enjoy the gaming!
I appreciate it! I tend to overthink things, but this helps a lot.
Honestly, you’re not going to notice a massive difference between the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D at 1440p. Both CPUs are excellent, but the 9800X3D just edges out in performance, mainly in competitive gaming at 1080p. Since you’re gaming at 1440p, your 7800X3D will do just fine. You made a solid choice and given the price point, it was wise! If I had to do it again, I’d still go for the 7800X3D because of its value.
The only thing that had me worried was the performance gap at 1440p, but it’s great to hear it’s not too significant. Thanks for the reassurance!
The 7800X3D is more than enough for gaming unless you’re doing heavy productivity tasks. You won’t see bottlenecking with your 9070XT, so you should be good. Enjoy your games at high settings!
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for clearing that up!
I have a similar setup with a 9*600X3D, and it’s smooth sailing at 120 FPS for most games. You’re in for a good time!
