I’ve played about 200 matches and recently tried ranked for the first time after getting my first submarine and carrier. I was excited thinking I was getting the hang of things, but in my first ranked match, I got shouted at, told to go back to random battles, and was treated really badly by teammates. This was completely different from the friendlier vibe I experienced in randoms and co-op. I’m currently ranked 8, so I’m wondering what’s going on? How do you improve and deal with this kind of toxicity in ranked?

Bronze ranks can be especially harsh because lots of players get stuck there due to a lack of skill or teamwork, causing an echo chamber of frustration. If you only have 200 games, it’s almost expected that you’ll get some heat since you’re still learning. The rude messages suck, but they’re kind of inevitable until you level up your knowledge and mechanics. The key is to focus on improving your gameplay, ignore the hate, and eventually you’ll climb out of the rougher ranks where toxicity isn’t as common.
Ranked matches tend to be a lot more toxic because people really care about their rank and hate losing stars. When you’re still learning, ranked isn’t the best place to be since mistakes are much less forgiven. Try to ignore the angry chat or just disable it if it gets too overwhelming. Eventually, as you get more experience, you’ll get better and the toxicity will affect you less. Everyone starts somewhere, just keep grinding in random or co-op until you feel more confident.
At only 200 matches, you’re probably still figuring out the basics, and ranked is less forgiving than random battles. Random matches often have bots at low tiers which make things easier, but ranked is all player-vs-player and people expect you to pull your weight. It can be frustrating, but maybe spend more time practicing builds, captain skills, and gameplay in non-ranked modes before pushing into ranked to avoid those rough experiences.
Honestly, jumping into ranked at just 200 games, especially using carriers and subs which are complex and impactful classes, can be rough. Your teammates might be harsh, but they probably expect a certain level of skill in ranked, and if you’re still learning, it can feel like you’re dragging the team down. It’s usually better to get more experience in randoms or co-op first to really understand those ships before jumping into competitive ranked matches.
It’s important not to take the toxicity personally — it’s a common thing in competitive games, not just this one. Most players at your rank and experience can get really frustrated if they feel someone’s not contributing, especially in classes like carriers or subs that can heavily impact the game. The best bet is to learn from those matches, keep practicing, and build up your skills. Once you get better, ranked becomes a lot more enjoyable since you can actually influence outcomes and earn respect from your teammates.
Yeah, I see that now. It’s tough but I guess I need to toughen up and just keep playing randoms and co-op until I’m more solid.
