I think I’ve pieced together part of the ending for FF7 Rebirth. Right before the last boss fight, Cloud and Aerith find themselves in an alternate timeline where everyone is hinting that it’s their last day. Throughout the game, we get reminders that the end is near for that world. After defeating Sephiroth, we see Zack come to terms with his fate while looking at the meteor, but it seems Aerith has moved him somewhere else. This leads me to believe this timeline is done, and we’re not going back to it.
So if this timeline is over, where does that leave Zack when he wakes up in the church? I think there’s a pretty good chance he’s actually in our main timeline. He wakes up surrounded by blooming flowers, which suggests Aerith is alive here, but she’s not in the church. Since it was our Aerith who sent him here, the only logical conclusion is that Zack is now in our timeline! In Part 3, I can see him reconnecting with us and making a dramatic return. Here’s how I envision it going:
– Game starts: Zack makes his way to Aerith’s house, puzzled about the world still being intact after he just faced doom. He arrives only to shock Aerith’s mom without an explanation.
– Later in the game: Our team senses they’re being followed and suddenly, it’s Zack who appears, joining them unexpectedly during a boss fight.
This could be a huge twist for Part 3 where both Zack and Cloud can finally team up at the same time!

I think your theory has merit. If Zack ends up in our timeline, it could change everything, but I still see the first parts following the OG storyline pretty closely. Expect some intense debates about this topic though!
Seems like a fun theory! But why would Zack suddenly show up in the main timeline? It raises so many questions about the narrative. What happens to Cloud then?
I feel you on that! The more plot twists, the better, but they need to balance everyone’s story. Otherwise, it just feels like an alternate universe mess.
I actually like the theory that Zack is in our timeline! Just got to wait and see how it plays out, but it sounds plausible.
Exactly! I can’t see any other explanation for where Zack could end up!
Whatever happens, I have a feeling Zack will end up sacrificing himself again, protecting Cloud. It’s the tragic cycle of their stories.
Don’t forget, Aerith and Zack are both in the Beagle timeline. The whispers surround them at the end, so there’s definitely more to it.
I feel like if Zack reunites with Cloud and the gang, it’s going to be at the end or close to it. He’ll probably be piecing together their journey while they’re off having their own adventures.
I’m just confused about how Rebirth ties into the original FF7. Like, are they following the same paths or are there major changes? I haven’t played Rebirth yet, so I’m lost on this!
It’s not a straight remake, trust me. Think of it like the Evangelion Rebuilds – familiar but with a twist. A lot is new, and the timeline is definitely different from the OG.
Rebirth takes a lot of turns compared to the original game. So it’s not just a 1:1 retelling. Things are definitely going to feel fresh.
I love Zack as a character, but I really hope his return doesn’t take away from Cloud’s own battle with Sephiroth. They need to keep that central to the story too.
Honestly, I think this idea might undermine Cloud’s journey in Part 3 and his moments with Tifa. If Zack’s back, it could overshadow their growth and struggles.
I mean, did you even read the original post? The logic is all there!
