I had a funny thought today that got me curious! What if Games Workshop suddenly revealed that The Emperor was never human, but actually the last of some ancient xeno species? Is there any existing lore that would make such a twist impossible? For reference, I know it’s often said that no one knows what he looks like, so who knows? Maybe he could’ve been a really smart krork! Just a joke, though. Please ignore that last bit!

I’m sure he’s human or at least human-like from the Dark Age of Technology. He might have some archaic traits but he’s definitely part of the human species.
The lore pretty clearly establishes The Emperor as a human. He was born to a human family in Anatolia around the 6th millennium BC, so that rules out him being a krork or anything else. There’s no indication from Games Workshop that he belongs to any alien species.
He’s definitely a human psyker. While it’s possible he’s had some upgrades similar to his Space Marines, it’s mainly his massive psychic abilities that give him his strength. So, it’s reasonable to assume he’s still categorized as human, just an incredibly powerful one.
