I’ve got an old second-hand PC with a 1TB HDD, and I’m not very savvy with computers. I’m thinking about downloading games to see if they run on my system and then deleting them if they don’t work. Is there any downside to doing this? I mean, like, once I delete the game, could it still somehow harm my system because of how memory or storage works? Or since my HDD has been through a lot already, wouldn’t it even matter?

No worries at all—downloading a game and then deleting it if it doesn’t work won’t harm your system in any way. Your old PC will function just fine. Just remember to uninstall thoroughly.
While downloading and deleting a game won’t affect your PC in a negative way, it’s worth noting that frequent use can reduce the lifespan of your HDD due to mechanical wear and tear. However, that’s more of a long-term issue. For SSDs, though, repeated write cycles could be problematic, as they have a limited number of them.
Nope, you’re good. Once you uninstall a game, there are no lasting negative effects. That’s just not how PCs operate. So, download, test, and if it doesn’t run, just uninstall it.
