Hey everyone, I’m just wondering if there’s ever been a situation in the lore where an Imperial Guardsman managed to climb onto a Dreadnought to provide some sort of support. I know these things are super serious machines, but it seems like it could be an interesting tactic. What do you think?

While it would be cool to see a Guardsman on a Dreadnought, in reality, it’s not practical. Dreadnoughts are revered by their chapters, and having someone climbing on one doesn’t really fit with how they’re viewed. Plus, they’re not the most stable platforms for sniping with all the rumbling and crashing!
Honestly, climbing onto a Dreadnought for support sounds like a death wish! Dreadnoughts are massive, heavy machines, and any Guardsman trying to do that would probably be squished or blown away instantly. But I guess if you did manage it, sniper support could be a decent angle, right? Still, it’s super risky with all that stomping around.
It’s not that simple! A Dreadnought is basically a coffin for a Space Marine who’s been interred in there. They can’t just let anyone hop in. Even if there’s one just sitting there (which is unlikely), only a Space Marine can operate it, and they’re fused with the machine.
I get that, but I was thinking more along the lines of just jumping on top of it, like piggybacking. It might give a good overview of the battlefield. I just don’t see why a Guardsman couldn’t use it as a vantage point!
True, the noise and chaos from a Dreadnought charging into battle would really complicate sniping. Plus, let’s be real, those things are considered relics; I doubt any chapter would appreciate someone climbing all over their prized Dreadnought.
