I’m on the lookout for some couch co-op games that give off a Metroidvania vibe, ideally to play with my partner. I usually lean towards single-player titles since I’m a big fan of Metroidvanias, RPGs, and platform adventure games like Hollow Knight, Ori, Cult of the Lamb, and others. My partner enjoys pretty much everything on my list, too. We’ve liked games like It Takes Two, Kalimba, and Mario games, but I’m curious if there are any other platform-focused co-op games you all would recommend.

You might want to check out Rain World. It feels a bit like a Metroidvania, but it’s much bigger. The challenge lies in skill rather than just finding items to progress, which adds a unique twist. Just a heads up though, it’s known to be super difficult—only about 10% of players manage to beat it, but if you’re both up for a challenge, it could be really rewarding! It’s available on Switch, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Yeah, Rain World can be brutal! Definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Shovel Knight is another fantastic co-op game to consider! It’s not a classic Metroidvania, but it has that platforming charm you’ll both enjoy.
N++ is a great option! It has a massive co-op campaign with around 400 levels, and there’s even more content you can tackle together. It’s super fun and offers tons of replayability.
Have you tried playing Guacamelee 2? It’s a lot of fun as a couch co-op and really captures that Metroidvania feel. My nephew and I had a blast playing through it together!
Sounds tough but exciting! I love a good challenge in games.
