Hey everyone, I’m upgrading my PC mainly for video editing in DaVinci Resolve. Currently, I edit in 1080p but want to move up to 4K editing and also do some 3D animations. Gaming is also a priority when I have free time. I’m torn between two CPUs: the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K. I’m planning on 64GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, a B850 motherboard, and a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD. The biggest question mark for me is the GPU—I’m considering a used RTX 3090 or a new Radeon RX 7800 XT since I won’t be gaming at 4K, and my max budget for the GPU is around 750€. Would love advice on the CPU choice for both editing and gaming, and recommendations for the GPU that balances my budget and needs.

For your GPU, I’d recommend looking into the used RX 7900 XTX if you can find a good deal on one. It has 24GB of VRAM, which is fantastic for video editing and future-proofing, especially with 4K and 3D animation workloads. It’s a bit more powerful and has enough memory to handle heavy editing tasks easily.

Thanks, that’s helpful! What about the CPU? I’m worried because some say Intel is better for editing and non-gaming performance, but Ryzen is supposedly better for gaming. The 7950X3D is about 550€, and the 265K is 450€ here.
