I am at Lanayru mine in skyward sword and have gotten to a place where there is a cave with moving sand. The other side is too far away for me to reach without running out of stamina. How am I meant to get over here?

This one was hard to figure out. The trick it to roll a bomb to the other side where the rocks are. This will destroy one, revealing a blue crystal that restores the area to it’s former glory.
You will be best using a bomb from your bomb bag to ensure you get 100% of the fuse time for rolling as it will likely blow before it gets to the end if you use the nearby bomb flower.
