Can't Get Kids' PS5 Accounts to Access Downloaded Games - Help Needed!

-

Hey folks, we’re having a real issue with our kids’ new PS5. We bought them the console for Christmas, and I’ve got a high-tier PS Plus membership. I’ve set up their accounts and linked them to my family. The problem is, they can’t play any of the games we’ve downloaded. They’re stuck with the ‘view product’ screen and can’t request access.

I’ve tried adjusting every parental control level for both PS5 and PS4 games, but no luck. This is really frustrating! I even considered returning the PlayStation. What can I do to let them play games on their profiles? Also, it seemed like I had to pay to link family accounts, which is really confusing. Any insights would be appreciated!

This sounds like a simple settings tweak is needed. On your PS5, make sure the account with the games is set as the ‘home console.’ This allows everyone on that PlayStation to play all the games. As for linking family accounts, it should be free. If you were charged, double-check that you went through Sony’s official site to avoid a potential scam. Once your settings are correct, your kids should be good to go in no time!

I think you’re right about me messing up the settings, but honestly, it feels unnecessarily complicated! And yeah, the fee seemed small, but definitely came from Sony’s site.

The issue probably lies with the console sharing settings, not the family account setup. First off, family setup shouldn’t cost anything; you might want to check if you mistakenly paid a third-party site. To fix your issue, log in to the adult account that’s tied to your family. Head over to Settings > Users & Accounts > Other > Console Sharing & Offline Play, and make sure the PS5 is set as your primary console. Also, try restoring licenses from the previous menu section—this might unlock those games on other accounts.

Remember, managing a family is different from game sharing. What you need is your account that owns the games to be marked as the home console for sharing with the kids. Go to settings on the main profile, ensure it’s marked as the primary, then other accounts should have access.
