I’m curious if anyone has run Pathfinder 2E in person without relying on digital tools. I know that platforms like Foundry do a great job handling the rules, but I wonder if the game’s complexity makes it tough to manage without that support. There are so many rules that I haven’t even dared to run it myself. I think the mechanics are fantastic, but does the game slow down too much without software to help the GM, or if you’re not exceptionally good at keeping all the rules in your head?

It’s definitely doable! Using the GM screen from Paizo is a big help since it provides info on things that can be tough to recall. I like using Pathbuilder2e for character sheets, plus I also rely on pathfinderdashboard.com for monster stats and initiative when playing in person.
What did we all do before digital tools? Honestly, PF2E has a moderate level of crunch. We typically just use Pathbuilder for character sheets, and that covers most of what we need.
Playing the game in person was pretty smooth; it’s not as overwhelmingly crunchy as you might think. That said, leveling up was a different story—it was a bit of a pain without any digital assistance.
I’ve primarily used Foundry, but I’ve played in person and it was fun! I did keep Foundry open on a laptop just for easy access to rules since I wasn’t entirely prepared, but I think knowing the basic combat moves is pretty much all you need to have a good time. If something goes wrong, it’s not a huge deal.
Agreed! I think a mix of both can work well; I like to keep the focus on the table and everyone around. I’m okay with using a phone or tablet for character sheets, though.
I’ve run games that are even crunchier than PF2E in person without any digital tools. It really depends on how much you’re willing to take on. Remember, many games weren’t designed with digital help in mind.
Exactly! It’s all about finding the right balance. I also think having a GM screen from Paizo can really help with remembering tricky rules.
