Can you recommend JRPGs with great mystery elements like the Xeno series?

-

Hey everyone! I’m on the lookout for JRPGs that feature a strong sense of mystery, similar to what I’ve experienced in the Xeno games like *Xenogears*, *Xenosaga*, and *Xenoblade Chronicles*. I’m fascinated by narratives that weave subtle foreshadowing throughout the game without giving too much away. I’m not expecting the mystery to be the central focus of the game, but it should have a significant presence. For example, in *Xenogears*, the character Id is introduced in a way that hints at deeper truths that only unfold slowly over time. I’d love to know if there are other JRPGs that create that same atmosphere of intrigue and keep the player guessing. I prefer titles available on Switch or PC (specifically Steam), but I’m open to other suggestions too!

You should definitely check out *13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim*. It has a sci-fi vibe and a ton of mysteries that unravel throughout the game. Just a heads up, though, it’s mostly cutscenes, but if you’re okay with that, it’s totally worth playing!

Have you tried *Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society*? It manages to keep you in the dark about its plot for a long time, which I found really engaging. You might also want to consider *Persona 4*—it has a murder mystery element that could tickle your fancy!

I think the *NieR* series is a great choice! Both *NieR: Automata* and the original *NieR* have lots of layered narratives and mysteries to uncover. The storytelling style keeps you guessing, although I get how the multiple routes can feel repetitive.

*Xenogears* may hold its own, but if you’re looking for something on par, I’d say *Chrono Cross* fits the bill. It has several mysteries woven into its narrative that gradually unfold, although it might not be as intricate as *Xeno*. Another awesome title is *Expedition 33*; it’s packed with mystery elements that will keep you intrigued!

Don’t sleep on *Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga* and games like *Baten Kaitos*! They both offer deep stories with significant mystery aspects. You’ll find plenty of moments that will keep you reflecting on the narrative long after you’re done.
