I’m on the lookout for JRPGs where the main character is fully dedicated to magic. Typically, these games feature protagonists who are a mix of melee fighters and spellcasters, but I’m curious if there are any that focus solely on magic users. It would be cool if the game also acknowledges their magical abilities in the storyline. I can’t think of any examples off the top of my head, and I’d love some suggestions!

You might want to check out Quest 64. Not the best game but fits the bill for a magic-focused MC. Just don’t expect too much polish!
In Trials of Mana, Angela is a pure mage you can choose as your main character and her magic skills are pretty cool!
Angela is awesome! She really shines in battles because of her spells.
I remember using Angela, she has some of the best attack spells!
The Atelier series is also worth mentioning! The protagonists are typically alchemists with high magic stats. They’re definitely more magic-focused than most JRPG leads.
I’ve heard good things about Atelier, I’ll have to give it a look.
For sure! Alchemy feels very magical, and the games treat it like a crafting spell system.
Ni No Kuni is a great pick! The lead, Oliver, wields a wand and really embodies the wizard role. Plus, the story is all about his magical adventures.
Totally! Oliver’s familiars are a mix, but they’re a fun part of his character, and it adds layers to the gameplay.
I need to replay Ni No Kuni, it’s such a feel-good experience!
If you haven’t played Forspoken yet, the lead character is all about magic. While the game itself has mixed reviews, the magical gameplay is definitely a highlight!
I actually enjoyed it back in the day too, despite its flaws. It had charm!
