I’m curious if there’s a game where I can play as a female character and have a female rival. For example, in HeartGold and SoulSilver, I really enjoy how the female rival behaves! I wouldn’t mind using cheats or mods to achieve this. Are there any games that let you do this? Is there a mod for custom character sprites or some workaround?

In Pokémon games, the only one where you can have a female character and a female rival is Scarlet and Violet. If you choose the girl character, your main rival will be Nemona, who’s female too! In other games, like Black and White, you have Bianca, but people see her more as a friend than a rival, while Cheren’s the main rival. So, yeah, SV is definitely your best bet for that setup!
Unfortunately, outside of Scarlet and Violet, you’re generally stuck with a male rival if you pick a female character. The only exception might be Bianca in Black and White, but that’s debatable since Cheren is the main rival. If you’re looking for a game that lets you easily play as girls and have girl rivals consistently, you’re mostly out of luck unless you’re willing to mod.
